LCME Re-Accreditation at HMSOM

Learning. Improving. Leading the Future of Medicine.

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine (HMSOM) is fully committed to excellence and continuous quality improvement in every aspect of our medical education program. As part of this commitment, we are preparing for our next full survey visit from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) in October 2027.

Key Components of Our Self-Study

The journey to re-accreditation involves several key components that require input from our entire community:

  • Data Collection Instrument (DCI) – The formal document where we provide a detailed narrative and concrete evidence to demonstrate how we meet each of the 12 LCME standards.
  • Independent Student Analysis (ISA) – A comprehensive survey and report conducted entirely by and for our students, providing the student perspective on the curriculum, learning environment, and student services.
  • Institutional Self-Study Report – Developed by the Self-Study Task Force, this report synthesizes the findings from the DCI and ISA and highlights our institutional strengths and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Our Roadmap to 2027

Our preparation is a multi-stage journey with clear milestones leading up to the October 2027 site visit.

Roadmap to Re-Accreditation

  • Stage 1: Laying the Foundation (January 2026)
Leads were appointed to guide the review and completion of the DCI for each LCME standard.
  • Stage 2: Assembling the Team and Building the First Draft (January – May 2026)
Our teams collaborate to complete the first draft of the DCI.
  • Stage 3: Convening Leadership and Student Voices (May – July 2026)
The Self-Study Task Force (SSTF) and Independent Student Analysis (ISA) Task Force are formally convened.
  • Stage 4: Gathering Student Feedback (July 2026)
The ISA survey opens to all medical students to capture the authentic student voice. In parallel, our teams refine the DCI into a second draft.
  • Stage 5: Analyzing Data and Integrating Findings (October 2026)
The ISA Task Force analyzes survey data while the third draft of the DCI is finalized and sent to the SSTF for review.
  • Stage 6: Finalizing the Core Documents (December 2026 – January 2027)
The final ISA report and final draft of the DCI are completed, representing the foundational pillars of our review.
  • Stage 7: Crafting the Institutional Self-Study Report (February – April 2027)
The SSTF prepares the final Self-Study Report, highlighting our strengths, opportunities, and plans for improvement.
  • Stage 8: The Dress Rehearsal: Our Mock Site Visit (April 2027)
We conduct a mock site visit with external peer reviewers to simulate the official visit and gather invaluable feedback.
  • Stage 9: Final Preparations and Submission (July 2027)
We submit all final materials to the LCME and confirm logistics for the survey team's visit.
